{"id":466,"date":"2018-07-31T06:50:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T06:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adamfayed.com\/?p=466"},"modified":"2025-11-30T12:54:56","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T12:54:56","slug":"health-insurance-in-vietnam-cambodia-philippines-malaysia-spain-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adamfayed.com\/es\/insurance\/health-insurance-in-vietnam-cambodia-philippines-malaysia-spain-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"Health insurance in Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Spain and beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For expats in Vietnam , Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, China, UAE, Spain and other expat destinations, expat health and life insurance can be one of the biggest concerns.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saving money, and investing the surplus, alongside taking wealth protection seriously, are two of the keys of financial freedom I mention in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Steps-Financial-Freedom-Secrets-Marketers-ebook\/dp\/B07DLY168X\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;keywords=adam+fayed&amp;qid=1532360112&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Libro<\/a>&nbsp;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What do you need to look out for? <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Is it a good deal?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Simplicity beats complexity in <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"planificaci\u00f3n financiera\" href=\"https:\/\/adamfayed.com\/es\/financial-planning\/personal-financial-planning\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"782\">planificaci\u00f3n financiera<\/a>. Insurance is dead money, so you need to get as much covered for as little as possible.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Being over-insurances makes no sense.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b> Is the insurer regulated from a developed countries?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b><br><\/b>You need to get as much covered for as little as possible, by an insurer that is regulated from a developed country, where there are strict rules on how claims are paid out.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Automatic renewal<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Linked to number 2, most insurers from developed countries will include automatic renewal in their insurance quotes. That means if you get cancer or have a heart attack in a few months, the insurer is legally obligated to reinsure you in years 2, 3 and onwards, often for the same or similar premium as before. Saving a few bucks for a local insurance deal that doesn\u2019t include this makes no sense, and I have seen countless expats with pre-existing conditions who can\u2019t get covered.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>It makes much more sense to have automatic renewal BEFORE you get pre-existing conditions<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Does the insurance include pre-existing conditions?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have came overseas with pre-existing conditions, does your insurance cover these conditions?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How steep are the increases in premiums<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As you age, premiums increase.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Knowing approximately how much they increase by can give you piece of mind and help you financially plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Do you need the insurance in the first place?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are living in Japan or several expat destinations where there is good quality health cover, and you are paying into the system from your taxes, you may not need private insurance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Likewise, if you don\u2019t have children and don\u2019t plan to have kids in the future, you don\u2019t need life insurance<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How much coverage do you need?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most expat health insurances will cover you up to $1M or $2M of coverage, which is enough for almost everybody\u2019s needs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>In terms of life insurance, how much you need will depend on how old your kids are, how many years you want to support them for, and if you have any debt.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>If your children are 5 years old and you want to support them for 20 years and you have no debts, then $500,000 of life insurance will probably be enough.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>If you have debts, and have a wife and children who both don\u2019t work, $1M of coverage or more might be needed.
