What is eToro?

eToro, a global trading and investing platform, was founded in 2007 by Yoni Assia, Ronen Assia, and David Ring in Israel with the vision of making trading simple, transparent, and accessible to all.

eToro’s journey began with the launch of its Visual FX trading platform in 2007, which introduced graphic representations for financial instruments to simplify trading and investing for income.

eToro is a social trading and multi-asset investment platform headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The platform that made what is eToro today came in 2012 with mobile trading apps, along with added stock options to its offerings in 2013.

eToro then integrated its trading and social features in 2015 into a unified interface.

Smart Portfolios, launched in 2016, allowed users to invest in thematic portfolios using advanced algorithms.

eToro expanded its cryptocurrency offerings in 2017, followed by its US market entry in 2019 with a crypto-focused platform that later included stocks and options.

The company introduced 0% commission on stocks globally in 2019 and localized GBP and EUR accounts with Visa debit cards for UK customers in 2021.

By 2022, eToro had launched stock investments in the US, including fractional share investing.

Initially based in Israel, eToro moved its headquarters to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after receiving approval from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

eToro is now licensed and regulated by the ADGM’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).

Yoni founded eToro in 2007, combining his passion for finance and technology to create the world’s leading social trading network. Recognized as a prominent fintech leader, he holds an MSc and BSc in Computer Science and is a member of YPO.
Ronen Assia – Founder & Executive Director
Ronen has over 20 years of experience blending technology and design. Before co-founding eToro, he designed products across various industries. He holds a BA in Industrial Design and an MA in Product Design.
Dr. Hedva Ber – Global Chief Operations Officer & Deputy CEO
