Rathbones, established in 1742, transitioned to focus on wealth management in 1912 and has been a notable presence in UK financial services ever since.
The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1992, coinciding with its 250th anniversary. That same year, Rathbones introduced one of the UK’s first tailored ethical and sustainable portfolio services, leading to the creation of Rathbone Greenbank Investments in 2004.

Key milestones in its expansion include acquiring Speirs and Jeffrey, Scotland’s largest independent wealth manager, in 2018, followed by the financial planning firm Saunderson House in 2021.
In 2023, Rathbones announced plans to merge with Investec Wealth & Investment UK (IW&I).
