What is Rathbones Group Plc?

Rathbones, established in 1742, transitioned to focus on wealth management in 1912 and has been a notable presence in UK financial services ever since.

The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1992, coinciding with its 250th anniversary. That same year, Rathbones introduced one of the UK’s first tailored ethical and sustainable portfolio services, leading to the creation of Rathbone Greenbank Investments in 2004.

Rathbones Group Plc operates from the UK and Jersey, with headquarters in London and a significant office in Liverpool.

Key milestones in its expansion include acquiring Speirs and Jeffrey, Scotland’s largest independent wealth manager, in 2018, followed by the financial planning firm Saunderson House in 2021.

In 2023, Rathbones announced plans to merge with Investec Wealth & Investment UK (IW&I).

Rathbones’ £100.7 billion in assets under management as of September 2023, includes £45.4 billion managed by its Investment Management division, £12.5 billion by Rathbones Asset Management, £2.0 billion through Saunderson House, and £40.8 billion from Investec W&I.

  • Paul Stockton – Group Chief Executive Officer
    Appointed CEO in 2019, Paul has a deep background in finance and wealth management. Having joined in 2008 as Group Finance Director, he played key roles in acquisitions and strategic execution. A chartered accountant, he previously held leadership roles at Old Mutual Plc, Euroclear, and the Phoenix Group. He also served as a non-executive director for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
  • Iain Hooley – Group Chief Financial Officer
    Appointed CFO in January 2024, Iain brings over a decade of leadership experience at Investec Wealth & Investment (IW&I), where he served as Finance Director and later CEO of IW&I UK.
